Can Love Blind You?

Love is blind is a cliché that has been used since time immemorial until it appears as though it has lost meaning. Today I want to write a little essay about it. From the experience of a friend of mine in college in the last academic year I realized that it is actually a true statement. I knew Mercy, immediately I joined campus. In fact, she is the first lady I knew in campus. I liked her greatly, but perhaps not that greatly to see her as my potential girlfriend. We used to meet often, but nothing came of it.

Towards the end of our first year in campus, she whispered to me that there was a guy she was going out with frequently and she was falling in love with him. I gave her my blessing and off she went to the man of the moment, some guy in third year from the Faculty of Engineering; Mercy and I both study Actuarial Science. She came to me a week later and told me that the guy was wonderful and he loved her dearly. I congratulated her on her catch and focused on my preparation for our imminent end of year exams.

‘What is the matter?’ I wanted to know when Mercy called me in a foul mood about a month later. ‘That guy is an animal. Can you imagine that I have given him my all, including my body yet he turns on me today and tells me he doesn’t love me, that in fact I have been the one presenting myself to him all along. I am so sickened.’ She spoke rancorously. ‘I am sorry.’ I muttered back though deep down in my heart I was made cognizant that love is indeed blind. She had loved him blindly.

For now it’s all with my essay writing. See you next time )
